Volunteer Monitoring

Lake Twelve participates in King County's Lake Stewardship Program, one of the longest-running citizen science lake monitoring programs in the Pacific Northwest. Volunteer monitors collect water samples and field measurements twice monthly from May through October each year.

Our Monitors: Jill & Ken Eide

Jill and Ken Eide have served as Lake Twelve's dedicated volunteer monitors since at least 2017 — nearly a decade of consistent, rigorous field work. Twice a month from May to October, they collect samples and measurements tracking:

💧 Total Phosphorus

Primary indicator of eutrophication risk and focus of the restoration's alum treatment.

🌱 Chlorophyll-a

A measure of algal biomass and overall lake productivity.

👁 Water Clarity (Secchi)

How deep light penetrates — a direct measure of water transparency.

🌡 Temperature & Nitrogen

Seasonal temperature profiles and nitrogen concentrations throughout the water column.

❤️ Thank you, Jill and Ken. Your nearly decade of dedication makes everything possible — from understanding the lake's health to making the case for restoration funding.
